840 S Canal Colocation Data Center | Chicago, Illinois | 2014

This 8-story building near Chicago’s Loop underwent a comprehensive phased renovation into a colocation data center with two floors of high density trading space.

SPARCH provided comprehensive architectural design services for master planning and four phases of construction, including development of building offices, customer work areas, data suites, and the installation of two standby generators in a sidewalk vault.

The design modernizes the building façade with an illuminated metal screen and new canopied entry for data center staff and traders. Visible from Loop offices, these updates signal the presence of new development and ownership of the facility.

The renovated lobby integrates dual levels of security in a refined modern design of vertical and horizontal planes that divide public, data center, and trader areas. The planes include textured feature walls lit by LED lighting and suspended volumes of light over the main security desk.
